Even for a site like mine that runs ads, I’d like to ask you to consider doing your share this year on Saturday, November 29, the 2008 International Buy Nothing Day. Especially after violence that happened this Friday at a Wal-Mart and a Toys-R-Us, we’ve got to stop and think about how we consume and why. No need pointing fingers at anyone in the White House to bring change if we’re not willing to look in the mirror and change ourselves. This isn’t me saying that I’m completely anti-capitalist. This is me saying is that there’s a time and place for everything, and this could be a time to put the credit card on “chill” and think about what you need to survive: a connection to life (earth, human, animal). When we can continue to shop (and be allowed to shop) in a store where someone was just trampled to death in the name of holiday bargains, something’s lost. Black Friday, indeed.
Celebrate the people in your life and spend time with them today. To get involved with formal activities on International Buy Nothing Day, visit this link: http://www.adbusters.org/campaigns/bnd
