Book Review: Conjuring Black Funk

Few books are willing to take African-American/B/black people on the spiritual/sexual journey that this book does. Written by sociologist/anthropologist and author, Dr. Herukhuti (Aih Djehuti Herukhuti Khepera Ra Temu Seti Amen), Conjuring Black Funk is a collection of essays, interviews, and poetry that beckons the reader to celebrate the raw, physical presence of Spirit in our queer lives. Whether describing spiritual sex with African deities, the question of monogamy, BDSM, or scorning the industry of HIV/AIDS maintenance (as he calls it in the book “HIV Industrial Complex”), his words are not minced as they are an encouragement to live every moment .

This is unflinching sensuality for the sake of better mental health for us, queer people of color. Get the book and embark on your journey.
