Well, if you’re getting ready for South by South Southwest music festival, check out some artists that will be in the Austin mix. Richard Andrew a.k.a Outasight has been a regular spin for me lately (and you, too, via the last mix tape). From Yonkers, New York, here’s Outasight.
MFM: What are your main musical influences?
I’m really influenced by all styles of music, but the greats of each genre have really inspired my own sound. Classic artists and groups such as Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, and Marvin Gaye to more modern acts like Kanye West, J Dilla, Mos Def, and D’Angelo have all help mold my sound.
MFM: If you could craft an all-star band, who would play in it?
I usually list a band mixed with players who are alive and gone, but really, if you gave me D’Angelo’s band from Voodoo, Quest on Drums, Pino Palladino on Bass, Charlie Hunter doin some bass work and guitar work as well, James Poyser on the keys, Raphael Saadiq lending a hand with guitar as well, I’d be more than happy.
MFM: Do you actually participate in other social networking sites aside
from MySpace?
Yea, I actually use twitter to stay in contact with my friends. It’s a very easy to follow social networking site that seems to be on the verge of major popularity. I plan on enjoying it while I can, cause soon enough the spammers will invade.
MFM: What do you like to eat when you’re on a road trip?
I’m trying to eat healthy now a days, but that’s never fun on a road trip…so finding the popular local spot where we can get a great burger and a cold beer is always a good time.
MFM: Are you looking forward to coming to Texas for SXSW? Have you ever been to
Texas before?
I have never been Texas, but I’m certainly look forward to it! It has always been a goal of mine to play SXSW, so being able to perform this year to me is certainly a step in the right direction and great honor…See ya there!
