The following is a note from SDCC’s Manager, Vicki Meek. Thanks for taking the time today to read and please consider helping as you can, even if it means cutting out a day or two of fast food lunch this week.

Hard Times Bring Hard Realities!
Hello, As we read the papers and see the effects of the economic downturn (translation: big time recession!), we all know someone that’s really feeling the pinch.
Well, today I am faced with how that pinch is making me squeal “ouch” as I grapple with the news that a very critical grant we expected to have in place for our summer program that starts June 8 will not be ours.
As you may know, our summer program is the jewel in our education crown, a program that prepares our kids for life in a way that most programs never do.
By teaching our South Dallas kids who they are via exposing them to their history in a fun and creative way, we prepare them for life in a world that requires both intellectual strength and character to succeed.
I am once again appealing to you to help us make this summer no less effective than past summers.
By making a small donation, you can make a big impact! Your donation will help us get some very important supplies.
With $50 from a few of our friends, I can purchase all the things I planned to get with the grant.
I am very proud to say that I run this program on a very lean budget and we are never wasteful.
For example, knowing that things would be tight, I designed my sculpture class (yes, I teach too!) to use recycled materials.
Other instructors are also designing their classes with this idea of thrift in mind.
However, all of them cannot make our magic happen in this way and it is for those classes that I must actually buy some supplies.
Things like photo printing paper, videotape and paint for the murals the kids create I can’t “recycle”!
You can easily make a donation by visiting our Myspace page (www.myspace.com/sdccoca
Or, if you don’t trust the world of cyberspace (which I know many folks don’t!) we’d welcome a check or money order made payable to:
The South Dallas Cultural Center Association and mailed to the attention of Vicki Meek at 3400 S. Fitzhugh Avenue, Dallas, TX 75210.
I thank you for your past support and hope you can give a little more so that the 70 kids attending our Summer Arts at the Center program can continue to experience a high quality creative summer adventure.
Gratefully yours,
Vicki Meek,
Manager
P.S. – Of course if you feel compelled to donate more than $50 (or less), I won’t stop you!
