Great Plains Restoration Council heading to Atlanta, GA Conference.

Recently interviewed on Mandrake Society Radio podcast, Jarid Manos sends a report of activities planned as he and select kids that work with the Great Plains Restoration Council head to the Breaking the Color Barrier in the Great Outdoors conference, which begins today.

“…GPRC is presenting three times: twice to the full assembly, and once in a breakout session. Full assembly is the Youth Town Hall on Thursday afternoon, where 6 of our Plains Youth InterACTION kids will present on personal health as part of the natural world (and also representing our “exotic”, forgotten prairies!), where they will speak directly to top officials from the Obama Administration’s Dept. of Interior and USDA (Forest Service), which then opens into a full-room discussion.

The other full assembly presentation that GPRC is part of is on Saturday morning, in “Developing Community” .

The four topics of the Youth Town Hall are: Personal Health, Careers/Access, Service, and Education.

GPRC youth will ask all 5 questions on the Personal Health topic.

On Saturday the kids strategically chose to use the opportunity to address:

1.) the need for new parks and refuges protecting prairies (including tallgrass) where currently we have almost none (and there is no Great Plains National Park),
2.) prairie dog poisoning on National Grasslands,
3.) restoring prairies helps protect us from climate change,
4.) restoring prairies can create new jobs that lead to new physical and economic health,
5.) and ‘why won’t you consolidate some of our national grasslands, remove internal fences, and let buffalo roam wild, which then create a ripple effect of health for all others on the landscape?”.

Please send good thoughts for our kids and for the other youth participants from around the country.

GPRC youth attending are: Michael Cortez (pictured), Sir Marquis Cortez, KB Kabuta, Kalule Kabuta, Patrice Mayo, Olin Mayo. Michael is giving the 3 minute overview of GPRC’s work.
