About JW Richard and Mandrake Society Radio

This blog and podcast started in 2005 with a simple mission as I moved back from Houston, Texas to my hometown of Dallas, Texas. I wanted to know my African-American and gay connections and history in this town. I know that Atlanta, New York, and various spots in California have their gay epicenters. Now , I’ve found that the African-American and gay experience is thriving in Dallas, and we have quite a story to tell as we articulate our experience and our future in the fight for equality under the law.

Now that’s not to say that all my guests are African-American and/or gay (or lesbian or bisexual or transgender, for that matter), but I never plan to lose sight of issues that are important to this community. Listen to new audio podcast interviews every Tuesday.

I’m a music lover as well, and every Monday, you can catch some traditional and contemporary jazz music in the Monday Jazz session mixtape podcast.

You can also catch my writing at my partner blog, popolio.com with the fabulous Freddie Rodriguez, and you can read more of our community in Dallas at my Examiner.com column.

Got some news, music, poetry, stories, or videos to share on the blog or in the podcasts? Write me at mandrakesociety[at]gmail.com, or through mail at Mandrake Arts & Media, PO Box 3945, Dallas, TX 75208-3945.
