About JW Richard and Mandrake Society Radio

With keen interest in music, media, and oral histories, JW Richard is a Dallas, Texas native who began producing Mandrake Society Radio podcast in May 2005 as a personal audioblog of his own spiritual journey and companion to his written blog, Mandrake Society. Since then the show has continued to gain listeners who are interested in a unique intersection of community life and music from this Texan’s perspective.

So, why something called Mandrake Society Radio, you ask? In my studies, this ancient herb, also know as Mandragora Officinaris, has been known to, among other things, arouse passion between lovers and as a narcotic to aid women in giving birth. This fascinating herb is still around today, and used in many fashions (try this!)

Similarly, same-gender-loving people of darker-skinned heritages have also been around since times of old, regardless of its relatively new perception in the African-American mainstream media. The passion of these men and women to reconnect and preserve their African connection for future generations has given birth to many of American history’s most powerful experiences.

DISCLAIMER: Unless specifically stated, sexual orientation of the interviewees should not be implied or inferred by their interview(s) here. The purpose of the interviews/entertainment is to share stories, experiences, and opportunities that inspire and encourage community uplift within Dallas/Ft Worth as a whole, as well as the same-gender-loving/GLBT community in that same area.

Understand that through this weblog and the podcasts, my desire is to let you know that you are not cut off from a like-minded community just because you don’t live in Chicago, or D.C., or Atlanta, or New York, or San Francisco. You have a family here in Dallas. Don’t be a stranger. Besides, this community as a whole needs you and the gifts that only YOU bring.
