Well, it’s been five years and I’ve told and/or shared several hundred stories in our community. However, because I’m beginning new stories with Fahari Arts Institute, a multi-discipline arts organization, and well as my column on Examiner.com, I’ve decided to end the podcasts and blog on this site. I’ll share my music reviews and other podcasts occasionally at popolio.com, so please follow that blog. In the meantime, thanks for supporting Mandrake Society Radio.com and Mandrake Society Radio podcast.

Most of all, thank you for allowing me to share my vision for my community in this format. My community here in Dallas, Texas, as well as my national and international community. I hope that these shows brought a glimpse of the world that was refreshing and at times, challenging. In this talk of LGBT equality, I hope these shows reminded you like they reminded me that the work starts locally. It’s in the uncomfortable conversation with those closest to us that are many times the biggest obstacles and the most personally rewarding once there is understanding.

In today’s final show, I’m interviewed by Dallas poet and author Gayle Bell and in-between the interview are snippets of past interviews including words about poetry from Opalina Salas, Dallas-based singer/songwriter Marilyn Duncan, and a lesson in drumming from Alassane Sarr. Music in the show is featured by Orrin Evans. I have three copies of his latest release, Faith in Action, from Posi-Tone Records to give away. C.D. Kirven sets the record right on Lambda Weekly podcast

Dallas author and activist, C.D. Kirven was a guest on Lambda Weekly’s radio show at KNON 89.3 this past Sunday afternoon. C.D. Kirven was one of the infamous “ENDA 4″, choosing to stay in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office in order to get a confirmation that the Employment Non-Discrimination Act be pushed to a vote by the end of March. For that, they were arrested. Now the “ENDA 4″ are on six-months probation. Find out more about the actions that lead up to this sit-in protest. The Silence Equals Consent interview with Tuan N’gai.

So, it was a gorgeous and noisy day outside of Buli coffeehouse in the Oak Lawn area and Tuan and I went from talking about the Silence Equals Consent tour which is what brings him to town this weekend, to our pity for the blind rage of some Ugandan citizens against gays, plus anger at the U.S. theologians who fanned the flames of hate.

Single of the day: Bembe Segue “Sense of Humor”

Okay, this song has all the right elements of the songs I love: syncopated jazz piano and a fun vocal. I’m familiar with Bembe Segue vocal from several electronic projects with 4Hero, Mark de Clive-Lowe, and Sleepwalker. It’s my first introduction to the music of David Sancious, so it’s time to hunt the clearance vinyl shops for his stuff as most of it is out of print according to his website. And the fact that this jam is a freebie for right now, means you’d grab it now. Enjoy!
