This special multimedia feature posted at NY Times features four individuals in Uganda, two transmen and two heterosexual men, and where they stand around the issue of the proposed “death to gays” amendment in the parliament. Since the recent retraction of support from key U.S. religious and political figures (also reported about in the NY Times article), it’s good to hear more voices of Ugandan citizens in the American news. At least it’s a start.

In one of the audio pieces, politician David Bahati was talks about the opportunity to provide leadership [by approving the measure] in an age of moral decadence, yet admits that polygamy is permitted in Uganda (referred to as part of the “natural order” of things by Bahati, in the audio piece). Many Americans and Europeans, especially women, would find polygamy immoral as well and would use interpretations of the same Christian scriptures to condemn it as many are using interpretations to condemn homosexuality.

This year will mark the five year anniversary of the Hurricane Katrina disaster. As the currently passed health care reform keeps everyone wondering how things will actually change, a watchful eye on how the new regulations could affect citizens living and rebuilding in New Orleans may be the most accurate barometer. The following recording was published on the National Radio Project in the September in 2008 and shares the health care statistics at that time plus women’s health organizations working to make a difference in their communities. As we strive to move towards a better health care system throughout the United States and how to better serve all communities, I believe it’s still a solid show to look back to and listen.

The track, “You Tell Me”, also features Mid One in a soulful groove that begins this “mixtape” if you will allow my nostalgically non-digital titles. I heard the [...]

You know, Tim Dillenger and Tim’m West are great artists in their own right, and know they prove to be a successful duo as well. The track, “You Tell Me”, also features Mid One in a soulful groove that begins this “mixtape” if you will allow my nostalgically non-digital titles.

I heard the sound of Certainly, Sir! in Cambridge, MA in 2007 while on conference for my day gig at the time. I remember thinking rather unashamedly that the lead singer was a cute bear of a guy. Turns out he is gay and involved, but then again so am I. They performed “Tony” live and the keyboard bass runs were so thick and juicy that I bought their CD, TAN!, on the strength of that one performance.

Jianda tapped me at MySpace and alerted to her sweet sounds. How could I resist? She lets you know what’s “Sweet and Nice”.

More and more people are catching on to the interview I did with Reuben Butchart and wising up to his great music. Along with Antony (from Antony and the Johnson), “All there is to Tell” is such a lush highlight of both their vocal styles. You should not be without Reuben’s latest, Golden Boy.

Bringing sounds that are both reminiscent of what you love about 80′s alternative and, for me, an Irish-tinged vocal style, Christopher Wilson‘s “Out There Eddy” is also good stuff to grab. Take a listen to the interview A.C. Coleman with Mandrake Society Radio did with Christopher.

Katz of Athens Boys Choir continues to bring spoken word that speak his truth about gender, politics, and rebirth. From his latest disc, Jockstraps and Unicorns, is “Erasing Too Hard”.

Owing also all their CDs, one of my favorite pop groups, The Aluminum Group, has released their latest disc, Little Happyness, and I couldn’t be happier. Props to Dallas Observer for bringing transgender issues (http://www.dallasobserver.com/2007-09-20/news/girl-meets-boy) to light. Catch John Selig's interview (http://johnselig.wordpress.com/2007/08/18/episode-8-youth-first-texas-bob-miskinis-co-founder-executive-director-with-moriah-sherman-and-chaaz-quigley-youth/) with Bob Miskinis with Youth First Texas (http://www.youthfirsttexas.org/).
